The Story Behind the Tale
Several years ago, a group of Cardboard Players members came up with their own comedy skit to do at nursing homes and retirement villages in the area as part of a variety show. The group was mainly made up of junior high and high school students from Eureka and El Paso. The idea for the play was a collaborative one, with each person giving ideas and suggestions until everyone agreed on something that was liked by all. The original script was much smaller and typed out in a rough form, but the general idea of plot and characters was created. Colleen Toliver and Ian Emser were the main idea builders of the group, but everybody created a part of it. Unfortunately, there was not enough people to fill all the roles at the time, so it never got off the ground. Later, after receiving the "Trial by Numbers" script, I decided that it was time to dust off the short script and edit it to make a completed play. - Lauren Ganther
